A long time ago, before smartphones, people could memorize an incredible amount of material. We have instances of ancient peoples memorizing epics, consisting of thousands of words, telling stories about creation, epic deeds, and the works of the gods.
Aside from being conversational in Spanish, my memorization skills have lacked greatly. That leads to this post and an epic (see what I did there?) goal. To memorize Matthew, my favorite of the gospels. That’s right, all 28 chapters. Will I do it? No one knows. But we are starting simple with the first 5 verses.
Matthew 1:1-5 NASB
1 The record of the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah, the son of David, the son of Abraham:
2 Abraham fathered Isaac, Isaac fathered Jacob, and Jacob fathered Judah and his brothers.
3 Judah fathered Perez and Zerah by Tamar, Perez fathered Hezron, and Hezron fathered Ram.
4 Ram fathered Amminadab, Amminadab fathered Nahshon, and Nahshon fathered Salmon.
5 Salmon fathered Boaz by Rahab, Boaz fathered Obed by Ruth, and Obed fathered Jesse.
Wish me luck.
