Some time ago, my wife came across a instagram reel where a man claimed that there was instances of witchcraft in the Bible. He used it as justification and evidence for the Book of Mormon being divinely inspired. He quoted Genesis 42:25-29 which says:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n25 Joseph gave orders to fill their bags with grain, to put each man\u2019s silver back in his sack, and to give them provisions for their journey. After this was done for them, 26 they loaded their grain on their donkeys and left. 27 At the place where they stopped for the night one of them opened his sack to get feed for his donkey, and he saw his silver in the mouth of his sack. 28 \u201cMy silver has been returned,\u201d he said to his brothers. \u201cHere it is in my sack.\u201d Their hearts sank and they turned to each other trembling and said, \u201cWhat is this that God has done to us?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
The claim was that the silver being placed back into their brothers back was some form of voodoo to keep track of them. That this supports Joseph Smith’s use of a seeing stone to translate the book of Mormon. However, this is contrary to God’s stance on witchcraft. We can see this throughout the Old Testament, in many places.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Leviticus 20:27<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n27 \u201c\u2006\u2018A man or woman who is a medium or spiritist among you must be put to death. You are to stone them; their blood will be on their own heads.\u2019\u2006\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
Leviticus 20:6<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n6 \u201c\u2006\u2018I will set my face against anyone who turns to mediums and spiritists to prostitute themselves by following them, and I will cut them off from their people.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
And to get out of Leviticus, Isaiah 8:19<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n19 When someone tells you to consult mediums and spiritists, who whisper and mutter, should not a people inquire of their God? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living?<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
and from the New Testament Revelation 21:8<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n8 But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars\u2014they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
Galations 5:19-20<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
God’s stance on Witchcraft is clear, and it’s people like this with a platform that have made the spirit of discernment increasingly important. Knowing The Word of God and heading to John’s, and other apostle’s, words will reveal when we are being fed lies from false prophets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n1 Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
